I keep coming back to Barrio

I remember my first visit to Barrio Mexican Kitchen & Bar. I had just started working at Methodologie, a fabulous creative agency in Seattle. A client of ours was coming to town for a couple of days and we wanted to give him a little taste of Seattle’s nightlife. Barrio was the perfect spot, in the heart of Capitol Hill. Our client loved the food and the atmosphere. It was the first time he’d seen flights of tequila offered at a restaurant. Something we all had to try!

That was four years ago and I keep coming back to Barrio. From the large windows that open along the street, to the candle lit walls inside, Barrio feels festive and intimate at the same time. The food is fresh Latin fare with a northwest twist. The service is friendly and attentive.

Last week, my daughter surprised my husband and me with dinner reservations at Barrio. No special occasion, just wanted a good meal at one of our favorite restaurants in Capitol Hill. We started with cocktails. I had the Green Chile Mule ($11), which was a nice twist to my favorite Moscow Mule. For dinner, I ordered the Traditional Pork Shoulder Carnitas ($20), crispy on the outside, yet tender inside. I’m gluten-free and can always find plenty of options on the menu for me.

Happy Hour is daily from 3-6 pm. They offer a good variety of snacks, tacos and small plates, plus cocktails, beer and wine at reduced prices.

Nice review. What are "flights of tequila?" I've never heard of that before?

Thanks, Janis. Flights are small samples of three different tequilas. I'm not sure how many ounces. Same idea as flights of beer and wine, which are popular at some breweries and restaurants.

Makes sense. Somehow, I was picturing flying tequila like the fish at Pike Place Market...one never knows when tequila is involved. :)
