Mother Nature's fall extravaganza

I keep hearing from my friends that autumn is their favorite time of year. They love the transition to cooler weather and colorful fall foliage. We get both in the Pacific Northwest, plus lots of rain!

The majority of trees in Western Washington are evergreen, yet there are wonderful pockets of deciduous trees and shrubs in neighborhoods and parks across the region. One of my favorite places to enjoy Mother Nature's fall extravaganza is in Seattle’s Green Lake Park.

Green Lake Park has a wonderful 2.8-mile path around the lake that encourages walkers, runners, bikers and skaters to enjoy the scenery. The leaves are just starting to turn beautiful shades of yellow, red and orange. Give it a couple of more weeks and the colors will be stunning!

UPDATE: A week after I took the photos above, I stopped by Green Lake to snap the pics below. What a difference one week can make! (Click on images to enlarge.)

We love driving up over Snoqualmie Pass. The trees change as you gain elevation and whole hillsides are awash in color.

I've made that drive during the fall and I know what you mean. Mother nature at her finest!
