Activities abound in this urban lake and park community
I keep hearing from my friends that autumn is their favorite time of year. They love the transition to cooler weather and colorful fall foliage. We get both in the Pacific Northwest, plus lots of rain! The majority of trees in Western Washington are evergreen, yet there are wonderful pockets of deciduous trees and shrubs in neighborhoods and parks across the region. One of my favorite places to enjoy Mother Nature's fall extravaganza is in Seattle’s Green Lake Park. Green Lake Park has a wonderful 2.8-mile path around the lake that encourages walkers, runners, bikers and skaters to enjoy the scenery. The leaves are just starting to turn beautiful shades of yellow, red and orange. Give it a couple of more weeks and the colors will be stunning! UPDATE: A week after I took the photos above, I stopped by Green Lake to snap the pics below. What a difference one week can make! (Click on images to enlarge.) Wow, what a gorgeous day to have some family fun at Green Lake! I spent last Saturday shooting pictures, talking to the competitors and enjoying the sunshine at the annual Seafair Milk Carton Derby. The atmosphere was exciting and the boats were, well, very creative! Here are a few of my favorite shots from the day (clicking on the images enlarges them).
One of my favorite summer activities is to attend the Seafair Milk Carton Derby. You can spend a couple of hours or a full day watching adults, children, families and businesses compete on the waters of Green Lake in creative and colorful boats they built from milk cartons. Some are more seaworthy than others, but that’s part of the fun!
